BEHIND THE SCENES OF AN NFL BOYCOTT IN BROOKLYN

BEHIND THE SCENES OF AN NFL BOYCOTT IN BROOKLYN

When I approach an SB Nation video, I often find myself being attracted to content that is happening in the moment. And Colin Kaepernick’s story of injustice from the NFL is a story that’s not only hard to escape, but also one that can not be ignored. Numerous outlets reported on Kaepernick’s situation itself, but it was rare to see reports of how Kaepernick’s actions directly affected the neighborhoods and the people that he was set out to represent.

So when we discovered a black owned cigar bar that decided to stop airing NFL games in Brooklyn, we wanted to give them a platform where we could amplify their voices. This piece is about the owners and clientele who chose not to support the NFL, as the league didn’t care about those issues and exiled Colin Kaepernick for speaking about them. Instead, they wanted to spend time talking about race in America and systemic injustice.
